- 11-FI, PK25 - Inspired by Poul Kjaerholm
Originally conceived in 1951 as a graduation project at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, the Element Chair represents one of Poul Kjærholm's earliest explorations of material, structure and form. Having trained as a cabinetmaker before studying furniture design under Hans J. Wegner, Kjærholm approached the project with a desire to create a chair reduced to its essential elements.
The design is remarkable for its structural clarity. Rather than assembling multiple components, Kjærholm developed a continuous steel frame formed from a single piece of metal, eliminating the need for visible joints and emphasizing the purity of the chair's construction. Woven cord stretched across the frame provides both comfort and visual lightness, creating a striking contrast between industrial precision and handcrafted detail.
The result is a chair that captures the experimental spirit of post-war Scandinavian design while foreshadowing the material honesty and disciplined geometry that would define Kjærholm's later work.
Our interpretation remains faithful to the original design concept, featuring a precision-cut stainless steel frame paired with hand-woven cord upholstery. Modern manufacturing techniques allow the frame to be formed with exceptional accuracy while preserving the seamless appearance envisioned in the original design.
Available in both natural and black rope finishes, the chair offers a sculptural presence that feels equally at home in contemporary interiors, architectural spaces and curated design collections.
