39-FI, Molded Plywood Lounge Chair Wood Base - Fabric Upholstery (LCW) - Inspired by Ray & Charles Eames
Recognized by Time magazine as one of the most influential designs of the twentieth century, the LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) represents one of Charles and Ray Eames’ most important breakthroughs in furniture innovation.
Originally developed in the 1940s through their experiments with molded plywood, the chair emerged from the Eameses’ pursuit of shaping wood into forms that could support the human body with comfort, strength and elegance. Their pioneering Kazam! Machine allowed them to transform thin layers of veneer into organic, sculptural shapes, establishing a new direction for modern furniture design.
With its low profile, carefully molded seat and backrest, and distinctive wood grain, the LCW creates a warm and inviting seating experience. Flexible rubber shock mounts connect the components while allowing the chair to respond naturally to the movement of the body.
A landmark of mid-century modern design, the LCW remains celebrated for its innovative construction, timeless proportions and enduring craftsmanship.
