18P-FI, Basculant LC1 Chair - Pony (Cowhide Upholstery) - Inspired by Le Corbusier
Originally designed in 1928 for a villa in Ville-d’Avray and first presented publicly at the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 1929, the LC1 Basculant Chair is one of the earliest and most distinctive seating designs of modernism. Created by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, the chair reinterprets the traditional campaign chair through a more architectural and mechanically expressive lens.

Its defining feature is the pivoting backrest, which adjusts naturally to the movement of the body and allows for a more relaxed reclining position. This balance of functional ingenuity and visual restraint gives the design its enduring appeal, combining comfort, lightness and structural clarity in equal measure.
Our interpretation preserves the essential character of the original design, featuring a tubular steel frame paired with suspended cowhide upholstery. The chair’s compact proportions and adjustable reclining action make it well suited to living spaces, reading corners and design-focused interiors where comfort and sculptural presence are equally valued.
Available in leather and selected cowhide upholstery options, the Basculant Chair remains a striking example of early modernist furniture—at once utilitarian, elegant and unmistakably iconic.
